How to Add Alt Text to a Post
In an upcoming lesson, we’re going to talk about why this is important, given a new direction Instagram may be heading in. Consider “alt text” a place to add blog-post-like titles to your content. Although your audience will never see this information, it may help you rank higher in searches in the future!
Step 1: Load your post as you normally would (in this case, we’re specifically talking about image, video, or gallery carousel posts to your main grid). Go through the steps of adding your location, caption, and hashtags.
Step 2: Before posting, scroll to the bottom of the pre-post screen (where you add your caption). You should see an option that reads “Advanced Settings.” Tap this.
Step 3: For every image or video in your post, you will now have the option to add further information. Although it may be beneficial to add hashtags here, I suggest focusing on “titles” for each image as it relates to your caption. For example, “What to Wear and How to Dress for Your First Photo Shoot: 3 Expert Tips.” This is similar to an email blast subject line or a blog post title, which makes it more searchable!
