Meet the Client: iBrows Studio | Visit Maine
May I just say… this place makes me swoon.
I got to shoot for iBrows Studio in 2020 before the pandemic shut everything down, and even then, this place was an experience.
And yet somehow in spite of all the mayhem of an economical rollercoaster, contentious elections, riots, lockdown, and the coronavirus, iBrows did well enough to expand their studio for 2021, and now it’s even better.
The iBrows founder, Inna, reached out to me about capturing their renovation back as early as March, and of course I said yes. Then with all the craziness happening with gas and lumber, the project was slowed down a bit, so we didn’t end up shooting until June… but it was worth the wait!
The luminous white space now has two floors, three rooms for microblading, and more plant life than ever. They’ve truly created a spa-like experience there.
I was there for four hours, so I got to capture the staff, the space, and real clients getting both first-time permanent makeup and touch-ups.
The women at iBrows are truly talented, and make their clients feel so comfortable. It’s hard to believe, looking at first-time clients so peaceful on the table that they could be sleeping, that they’re technically getting tattooed!
One thing I got to capture this time around that I didn’t get to see on my first visit was permanent lip color.
(The older I get, the more value I see in this procedure… I really feel naked leaving my house without lipstick these days, and my favorite brands are always discontinuing my favorite shades!)
This was a fascinating process, more lengthy and tedious, it seemed, than eyebrow microblading. Layers upon layers of color have to be added for a full, saturated final result.
I enjoyed every moment, and didn’t want to miss a single detail. From the decor to the tools to the microblading steps, to the look on clients’ faces when they saw their results, everything was exactly as you’d hope it would be as a photographer, looking for beauty and moments to capture.
One of the things you can tell about this team that’s truly special is that they all love each other. They all want everyone to feel included and to have fun. Women supporting women. That’s where it’s at!

Oh! One more thing about this shoot that was sort-of fun: I got to use some new presets I’ve created in 2021, including Boys of Summer Bright, and Golden Morning 01 & 02.
I didn’t expect them to work so well under the mix of natural and artificial light, but my edits were practically just one click in so many cases!
